Playing various submissions for the DOS Games End of Year Jam, both ZZT and otherwise.

Starting with WiL and LoveLoveKitty's latest, "Galactic Food Truck Simulator 2999", a Weave game loosely recognizable as something like Lemonade Stand or other text-based business simulations. Fly your truck to various planets, harvesting local ingredients, finding new ways to combine them, and selling them to some sus looking peoples.

Incredible presentation here really dresses up what could be a QBASIC game from 35 years ago. Of course, there's far more than just picking a menu and setting prices. Players have to manage the size of their pocket dimension used for cargo space, comb through resumes to hire the best employees, participate in a number of unusual events, and upgrade your kitchen. GFS's interfaces really make the game feel like a game built from scratch rather than a world for (Weave) ZZT, and in a good way.

Afterwards, poking around a few less complete submissions. iamgreaser brings in an authentic EGA platforming engine written in assembly with physics that feel good to run around and jump in, and a little editor for placing walls and one-way floors. The groundwork is here for something cool.

Then another prototype by spazzylemons with a full 3D environment for players to drive a little car around. It too doesn't have a whole lot to actually do, but the aesthetic is nice and some of the landmarks around the town give it a lot of charm. This is the kind of thing you'd show somebody in 1992 and they'd be floored by this vision of the future.

Lastly, Hollybush Park is little toy game where you get to build a small railway feature for a park. Place the station and track, as well as paths, plants and water features. (Well, ice. It's winter themed.) Watch people run around for a bit. Feels like an interactive screensaver of sorts and very cozy.
